The Market for 10 Gbps Modules to Surpass $4.2 Billion ($US) in 2011 Says New CIR Report
July 12, 2006
Charlottesville, VA: According to a newly released set of forecasts from CIR, a leading industry analyst firm based here, the market for 10 Gigabit transponder and transceiver modules used in data and telecommunications networks will top $4.2 billion ($US) in the year 2011. The firm also notes that the long awaited 40 Gigabit market will start to gain traction in 2008 and generate revenues of close to $350 million ($US) in 2011. These and other findings are from CIRs new report, The Market for 10G & 40G Modules that the firm has just released. Details about the report can be found at here. Members of the press may request a full executive summary of the report.
Key Findings:
- Ethernet is the key to the 10 Gbps module space says CIRs new report. The year 2008 is when the market will accelerate with revenues of $1.6 billion that year growing to over $2.3 billion in 2011. CIRs report projects that 10 GigE port shipments in 2011 are expected to surpass 26 million.
- OC-192 Sonet/SDH and 10Gbps WDM modules will also enjoy robust growth in that time period reaching revenues of $648 million and $744 million respectively in 2011.
- 8/10 Gbps Fibre Channel shipments will exceed 5 million ports in 2011 with the overwhelming majority of that figure being at 8 Gbps.
- Shipments of XFP transceivers will reach $1.3 billion by 2011, but the new XFP is likely to be increasingly challenged by the new SFP+ MSA.
- By 2011, the emerging standards for 10 GigE, 10GBASE-LRM, 10GBASE, perhaps together with a new standard for POF will account for about half of the 10GigE modules shipped.
The Market For 10G & 40G Modules:
In this new report CIR continues its coverage of the 10G and 40G transceiver and transponder modules market. The report provides a completely updated and revised set of forecasts from our last release in late 2005, reflecting among other things the continued expansion of service provider and enterprise networks and the increased optimism among optical networking and component manufacturers. In addition to the extensive forecasting provided in both volume and value terms and broken out the 10G/40G modules market by MSA, form factor, reach and media type, the report also offers a rich discussion of enabling technologies, an analysis of key applications, perspectives on the future of MSAs and assessments of key modules suppliers.
