CIR Announces Date for Upcoming Webinar on 40 & 100 GigE Markets

March 3, 2009

Glen Allen, Virginia: CIR, a leading industry analyst firm based here, today announced that it will be presenting a webinar on 40 & 100 Gigabit Ethernet markets. The event will take place on Thursday, March 19th at 2:00 PM EST. Persons interested in registering for the event may do so here or by contacting the firm's sales department at sales@cir-inc.com.

About the Event:

The success of Ethernet draws a lot of interest in the communications and networking worlds. In the past, discussion about higher speeds for Ethernet have led to heated debates on what speeds are needed and when. 40G and 100G Ethernet are no exception. Although there has been strong support for 100G Ethernet from big end users like Google, Amazon, Comcast etc. the actual volumes for the near term is very low. The introduction of a 40G intermediate speed was done to satisfy the interests of the server group.

This webinar will address the questions of "When, Where and How" for 40G and 100G Ethernet.

  • When will the first deployments of 40G and 100G Ethernet happen, when will the volume markets appear?

  • Where will the first deployment occur, which parts of the network will need 40G and which parts will need 100G?

  • Which variants will be deployed first and which will be deployed in the long term?

The webinar will discuss each of the variants being proposed by the 802.3ba working group and the modules being developed to support them. We will show the advantages and disadvantages of each variant and module. Finally, we will share market predictions for which variants will succeed in the market and which will fail.

This analysis presented in this webinar will prove invaluable to networking engineers, strategic planners or investment professionals looking to make decisions on product development, investment levels, purchasing or longer term planning.

About CIR’s Recent Report:

CIR has been covering the 40/100 GigE since its inception and this is the firm’s third report. “40/100 GigE Markets: 2009-2013” offers a realistic assessment of where the opportunities are likely to be in a near term economic environment in which both IT spending and carrier CAPEX are under pressure. The report also addresses which applications and systems will be the first to need 40/100 GigE and how big will that demand be, how 40/100 GigE will play out in the metro and long-haul networks as well as in the data center. This new CIR report also discusses the most likely technology roadmap for the first commercial 40/100 GigE products with coverage of transmission formats, MSAs and the 40/100 GigE strategies of leading firms active in this space including Cisco, Juniper, Sun Microsystems, Force10, Nortel, JDSU, Finisar, Avago, Luxtera, Opnext, Xilinx, Altera, IBM, LSI, Gennum, AMCC, Vitesse and Broadcom.
