Valuations

High-Tech Asset Valuation Services

CIR offers monetary valuations on companies, partnerships, intellectual property and other assets in the technology sectors we know best.

Whether you are negotiating an investment, considering an acquisition, licensing technology or establishing the value of a partnership, a credible valuation provides a stronger basis for making decisions.

In high-tech markets, that requires understanding both the financials and the technology. Commercial value depends on market demand and market share competitive positioning, barriers to entry and the prospects for turning technical capabilities into revenue.

Financial Valuation Informed by Technology Expertise

CIR’s new asset valuation service draws on our established research coverage of:

  • Data centers: infrastructure, power, cooling and enabling technologies.
  • Photonics: optical communications, components and systems.
  • Quantum computing: hardware, software and supporting technologies.
  • Post-quantum cryptography: products, services and migration opportunities.
  • Advanced networks: communications infrastructure and emerging architectures.
  • Artificial intelligence: platforms, applications and infrastructure.

We bring knowledge of these markets to the valuation process, connecting financial assumptions with the commercial opportunities and constraints facing each business or asset.

Companies, Partnerships, IP and Other Assets

CIR’s valuation service helps clients assess the monetary value of entire companies, business interests, partnerships, intellectual property and other technology assets. Engagements can support investment discussions, acquisitions and divestitures, partnership negotiations, technology licensing and strategic planning.

The approach is tailored to the asset and the purpose of the valuation. Relevant methods may include discounted cash flow, comparable-company and transaction analysis, and scenario analysis. For emerging technologies, we assess how adoption, commercialization timing and execution risk affect the range of potential values.

The goal is a reasoned valuation with clear assumptions—giving clients a basis for negotiations and a better understanding of what drives value.Technology Scouting and Roadmapping

CIR helps clients identify the latest technologies that are changing the shape of the data center business worldwide

Our extensive experience with technology development enables us to provide detailed roadmaps for new networking and enterprise AI technologies. We also provide revenue scenarios for these technologies and insight into which startups we expect to be commercially successful in these new areas, as well as an assessment of the challenges that the latest technologies need to overcome.

An Established Capability, Now Available as a Dedicated Service

CIR has provided valuation services for small, mid-size and large clients, and is often referred or contacted for repeat business. This offering builds on our longstanding analysis of high-tech markets.

If you need to establish what a technology business, partnership or asset is worth, CIR can help you connect its technical potential with its financial value.

Our methodology

Our methodology is based on building a discounted cash flow model of the asset over and an appropriate length of time. Where valuations of this kind are often carried out by academic economists and accountants, the CIR team is lead by Lawrence Gasman who brings a deep understanding of the markets and economics of high tech to the valuations. Once the model has been built Professor Cynthia Fraser brings sophisticated Monte Carlo simulation into the CIR methodology in order to model and appraise thousands of cost and revenue scenarios for product, company or other asset that is being valued. Our valuation service can be used to present to investors, lawyers and lenders.
